Review
Prism is a browser framework for running desktop applications. Simply enough, you tell Prism what website you want to use in your desktop and it creates an application that goes straight to that website whenever you launch it. The application will run in a closed environment that has nothing to do with your web browser. So, even if the web browser crashes, your web application in your desktop will still work. For example, on their website, the developers use YouTube as an example. They create a YouTube icon on the desktop and whenever they double click it an application launches with YouTube's main page on it. I tried to replicate that. Prism created the YouTube app and I opened it. I searched for a video and when I tried to play it I got the infamous "You need Flash Player". Well I do have it, but I reinstalled it. Yet nothing happened. Metacafe.com worked perfect out of the box. Still, the possibilities are quite endless. You can create apps for your e-mail websites (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.). Those even support notifications when new e-mails arrive and you can configure them to show the number of unread messages. All the applications are created from a single window, where you add a website URL, give the app a name, and specify some other options, like showing status bar, displaying browsing controls and address bar, and sending application to the system tray. Also, you can either tell Prism to locate your application in the desktop or the start menu. Uninstalling your created apps is as easy as deleting the icon. |
- Really stable and easy to use.
- Many configuration options.
- No installation needed.
|
- I experienced some issues with Flash content within created apps.
